Pathfinder Second Edition

Post by greywizard77 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 3:44 pm

Just heard about this...

http://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dy ... r-Playtest

Can't say I'm surprised, although I was hoping it wasn't...

Anyway, thoughts?

There is an absolutely HUGE FAQ regarding PFS 2E... It's definitely worth checking out.

The good news is that the Pathfinder Society will continue into 2nd Edition and we will still be able to play 1st Edition characters on the 1st Edition scenarios!

I can understand 10 years is a long time for a game to evolve and the decision to make a new edition, but, I don't want to invest in a whole new set of books. That's why I quit D&D. It was getting too expensive keeping up with the editions.

I can understand your perspective, and I hope everyone will keep a few things in mind. While Paizo is going to eventually upgrade to Pathfinder 2E, we still have 18 months of 1E scenarios and stories. In addition, once 2E is out, we can still play PFS 1E with the 1E scenarios. Additionally, if they didn't go to 2E, I would simply continue buying 1E books as they put them out. In this case, it means I'll be giving my money up for 2E books instead of 1E books...

No matter what, I think waiting to see what they come out with is definitely the way to go.

Wow, I got a sticky started!! That means I get a boon next game, right?
:)

I'm with Christian about the money, but it's largely because I'm poor anyway.
I haven't had the chance to read all the details yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I have a lot of confidence in Paizo not turning this into 4E. There seem to be a lot of new mechanics introduced with Starfinder, Unchained, and other more recent books that I think can be re-worked into something a bit more cohesive. And it looks like they will be selling a less expensive paperback verision of the core book, so it might actually be affordable.

I'm going to try to listen to the Glass Cannon preview podcast and get a feel for it.

My suspicion (and this is only a suspicion... as a VC I have not heard anything, and if I had I wouldn't say anything for fear of accidentally breaking the NDA I signed) is that Pathfinder 2E is going to be very similar to Starfinder in mechanics.

I wonder if all you GMs will lose your stars.

To the best of my knowledge, the star question has not yet been answered, as they directed questions of that sort to the "2E" PFS thread.

As far as mechanics, we can get at least a teaser from the Glass Cannon Podcast play through with Jason Buhlman and Erik Mona: https://glasscannonpodcast.com/the-pathfinder-playtest-parts-1-and-2/#comment-1074

I would like to see a poll put up to see how many people are for, against, or whatever for a second edition. It will probably help me plan for the future of organizing games at the Wizard's Chest. Or even just playing PFS anymore.

Here's a great interview from Know Direction with Paizo's Erik Mona and Logan Bonner discussing Pathfinder 2.0:

While Jason and Erik were at Glass Cannon, they also did an on the fly conversion of Crypt of the Everflame and ran the guys through it. There was an opportunity to "see" some of the new rules in play. There is some stuff to really sink your teeth into in there.
